Welcome back our Millenial Readers and a happy new month to you! I hope and pray that May will be a month of good tidings for us all.

May is a very special month for me since it is the Mental Health Awareness Month.

During this month, I take advantage of most mental health trainings, events, and activities and ensure I learn more about issues around mental health and also play my part in sharing this with you, dear readers, as well as with the greater audience in my life.

Today, I shall share with you how to do your part also, to ensure we continue creating awareness on mental health and reduce the stigma around it.

  1. Talk openly about mental health: One of the best ways to reduce the stigma around mental health is to talk about it openly and honestly. Whether at school, in the workplace, at home, or at an event, don’t be afraid to start a conversation about mental health. This can create a safe space and help others feel more comfortable talking about their own mental health struggles.
  2. Take care of your physical health: Physical health and mental health are closely connected. Make sure to hydrate, get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, and exercise regularly. This can help improve your mood, reduce stress, and boost your overall well-being.
  3. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness involves focusing your attention on the present moment. This can help reduce anxiety and stress, and improve your overall mental health. You can practice mindfulness through meditation, yoga, or simply taking a few minutes each day to breathe deeply and focus on your thoughts and feelings.
  4. Seek help if you need it: If you’re struggling with your mental health, don’t be afraid to seek help. This could include talking to a trusted friend or family member, reaching out to a mental health professional, or contacting a mental health support line. There is always someone willing to help. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
  5. Support mental health initiatives: There are many organizations and initiatives working to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma. This month, there will be more of such initiatives including walks, talks, seminars, etc. Consider getting involved in some of these initiatives, whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word on social media.

I sincerely hope that each of us will take it upon ourselves to do our part this month and help spread awareness and create a safe space for all.
